Painting Challenge: Botanical Art

Let’s get back to nature this week and…

Paint botanical art.

Include the topic hashtag in your Watercolor – Beginners and Beyond Facebook group post: #botanicalart

Deadline August 19, 2022, 11:59 pm ET

What is Botanical Art?

Whole plants or parts of plants.  Here are some examples I have painted.

I encourage you to look at any plants you have around you and give it a try.  Either do one leaf, or the entire plant.

What is the prize?

Our sponsor, Berlin Drawing Room, has contributed registration for one random winner to their 6-week online Fall Botanical Watercolor Workshop

Format: Online Live (livestreaming with class recordings and instructor feedback)

August 30 – October 4, 2022
– 6 Tuesdays
– 6:00-8:00 pm CET   (6 pm in Berlin, 5 pm in London, 12 pm in New York, 9 am in San Francisco)

If you cannot attend the live sessions, recordings will be available.

The paintings made in this workshop are inspired by the figure of the Naturalist, who was both artist and scientist. These paintings are just as much about the subjective process of observation as they are about the recording of scientific data. Slide shows throughout the workshop will provide historical examples of botanical illustration as well as botanical details.
