This week’s challenge is all about painting strong contrasts against the light.  Thank you Graham Berry for challenging us to try new things!

Paint contre-jour (against the light).

What does contre-jour mean?

Contre-jour painting effect usually causes a strong contrast between light and dark.  The light source is often seen as either a bright spot or as a strong glare behind the subject.

Here are the details:

  • Share a painting that depicts contre-jour (against the light)
  • Entries must be posted in the Facebook group: Watercolor – Beginners and Beyond
  • Include topic hashtag in your Facebook post:  #contrejour
  • You may enter as often as you want
  • Open to all countries
  • Winner is chosen randomly
  • Deadline April 14, 2023, 11:59 pm ET (New York time)
  • Winner announced April 16, 2023
  • If you also post your painting on Instagram, tag @watercolorbeginnersandbeyond.   You could be randomly chosen for a QoR watercolor sample dot card.
