Painting Challenge: Earth Day

April 22 is Earth Day.   This week’s challenge is to show how you can help protect everyone’s home — EARTH.   There are many ways we can help save the earth:  reduce waste, recycle, repurpose, compost, plant trees and pollinator-friendly plants (helps the bees!), conserve water, buy used goods instead of new.

Paint ways to save our EARTH.

Include the topic hashtag in your Watercolor – Beginners and Beyond Facebook group post: #EarthDay2022

Deadline April 29, 2022, 11:59 pm ET

Planting trees is a way to help save our earth.  Trees help the environment as they breathe in pollutants like carbon dioxide, and release oxygen for us to breathe.  It’s like a natural air filter.

This watercolor painting was done over Golden Crackle Paste.  When the paste dries, it creates interesting cracks, and it’s like painting a stained glass window.

I painted the earth on Shizen 100% cotton paper.  This paper is less expensive than most 100% cotton paper, and is made from recycled t-shirts.   The paper has interesting texture, great for granulating paint.

What is the prize?

Boulder Colors is our special sponsor for this special challenge.   They make eco-friendly watercolor paint from locally grown plants and locally sourced food waste, handmade in small batches.  One random winner will receive an Earth palette, paints made from avocado pits, pine cones, dandelions, Cherry leaves, peach pits, and choke cherries.   All natural, non-toxic.   Follow Boulder Colors on Instagram.
