… and now for something completely different! 🙂
Paint a street view!
Include the topic hashtag in your WB&B Facebook group post: #GrahamBerryStreetview
Deadline February 4, 2022, 11:59 pm ET
Graham Berry came up with this brilliantly creative idea to leverage Google Streetview as a reference for a painting. Here’s what he said:
“…for those of you who find it’s not just how to paint but also what to paint, here is one solution.
A few years ago I stumbled across a challenge on ‘Dailypaintworks’ using google ‘street view’ for reference material, so out of curiosity I went on to ‘street view’ and was amazed at all the ref material available. I could travel the world sitting at my computer screen and a real bonus is everything is copyright free, fantastic. I have since painted over 20 scenes taken from ‘street view’ reference, I usually look for street scenes, cafes, markets etc, and I like it to be on a sunny day, so a lot of my paintings are in Italy, Mexico and Southern France. Another good thing is nothing is too detailed and all faces are pixelated! Everything is filmed from a camera high up on top of a van, so a great angle to work from.
For this challenge I want you to paint a scene from ‘street view’, of course you can source your own images and they can be any subject you like. You will find plenty of landscapes, seascapes, cityscapes etc. You will also find plenty of rainy scenes, like here in ‘sunny’ Blackpool! Venice is now on ‘street view’ so there’s plenty of material and in these Covid days you can travel the world without any restrictions!
I will also supply plenty of photos that I have already found and you are free to use these, in the coming days I will also post a few of my own ‘street view’ paintings.”

Here are some photos from Streetview that Graham shared. I will share more in a post.
What is the prize?
The prize for one random winner will be a one-year subscription to Graham Berry’s courses: Paint with Graham. There are over 82 full tutorials available immediately with a new tutorial added every 2 weeks. His painting style is perfect for both beginner and experienced artists.
If you’d like to try a tutorial for free, sign up here. I learned so much from this free tutorial about using a limited palette, creating warm light, and to allow the paint to “do its thing” and not fiddle with it too much.
Thank you Graham!
