Inktober 2023

Jake Parker created Inktober in 2009 as a challenge to improve his inking skills and develop positive drawing habits. It has since grown into a worldwide endeavor with thousands of artists taking on the challenge every year.

Yes, we will still do weekly challenges.  This is an extra month-long challenge.  🙂

Participate in Inktober.

Include the topic hashtag in your Watercolor – Beginners and Beyond Facebook group post: #inktober2023

You can do one prompt, some prompts, or all all of them.  It doesn’t matter.  You can even do them out of order if you want.  It’s a fun challenge that helps you to get into daily drawing practice.   You can use ink, watercolor, gouache, watercolor pencils, water soluble graphite, or a combination of all of these!  The goal is to practice drawing — and to have fun!

Challenge details:

  • Entries must be posted in the Facebook group: Watercolor – Beginners and Beyond
  • You may enter as often as you want
  • Open to all countries
  • Winners are chosen randomly
  • Include the topic hashtag in your post: #inktober2023
  • Challenge lasts for the month of October. Throughout the month, there will be 5 random winners selected from the entries
  • If you also post your painting on Instagram, tag @watercolorbeginnersandbeyond.   You could be randomly chosen for a QoR watercolor sample dot card.

Here are the daily prompts.

What are the prizes?

Throughout the month, I will select 5 random winners to receive a handmade ceramic palette and brush rest provided by our sponsor, Saida Clay.

They are so cute!

Saida loves pottery and watercolor. She has an Etsy shop where she sells handmade watercolor palettes and brush rests. Palettes and brush rests made out of raw clay – stoneware.  She carves clay out to form wells in each palette.  Drying time is from a few days to a couple of weeks, depending on humidity.  Then they are fired (baked) twice up to 2100F° for a total of 18-20  hours.  Glossy white glaze is applied after first firing and in second firing glaze melts and become permanent glass like surface.
Each palette comes in a tin (size of popular mint tin) with complimentary pipette.  It has rubber feet and magnet glued to the back. Brush rests are in form of tube of paint and can support 3 brushes.
