Painting Challenge: Graham Berry TV and Movie

Love the ideas Graham Berry comes up with… and here’s another creative challenge!

Paint TV and Film stills.

Include the topic hashtag in your WB&B Facebook group post: #TVandFilm

Deadline March 25, 2022, 11:59 pm ET

From Graham Berry:

……for this challenge we are going to use another resource that’s right at our fingertips, TV and film stills!

A few years ago I was watching a programme on BBC TV called ‘Coast’ and they were filming fishermen with horse and carts trawling for shrimp, if I remember correctly.  It looked fantastic and I just wished I could be there with my camera to capture some images to paint. I then realised I could watch the programme on my computer and grab a few screenshots and maybe some usable reference, which is exactly what I did.

The challenge is to find images from TV or film that inspire you to paint, it can be any subject, you can change things around, use images from 2 or more sources. Remember you are your own Art Director, selecting the images, cropping or rearranging them to suit yourself.

I will supply plenty of photos that you can use, I hope you enjoy this challenge, happy painting.”

I will add many of his photos to post that you can use.  Here are a few with drawings that Graham has done.  You may use his outlines if you’d like.

If you paint a recognizable figure/person, recommend you include “for learning purposes, not for sale” in your social media public posts.

What is the prize?

The prize for one random winner will be a one-year subscription to Graham Berry’s courses: Paint with Graham.  There are over 82 full tutorials available immediately with a new tutorial added every 2 weeks.  His painting style is perfect for both beginner and experienced artists.

If you’d like to try a tutorial for free, sign up here.   I learned so much from this free tutorial about using a limited palette, creating warm light, and to allow the paint to “do its thing” and not fiddle with it too much.

I loved doing this one.. I could feel the warm sun!

Thank you Graham!
