Include the hashtag #WBB4years in your Watercolor – Beginners and Beyond Facebook group post.

Deadline September 29, 2023, 11:59 pm ET    

Here are the details:

  • What to post to enter the challenge:
    • Share one of your watercolor paintings AND your fondest memories within the WBB group, or
    • Share one of your watercolor paintings AND a story about your personal growth as an artist
  • Entries must be posted in the Facebook group: Watercolor – Beginners and Beyond
  • Include topic hashtag in your Facebook post:  #WBB4years
  • You may enter as often as you want
  • Open to all countries
  • Winner is chosen randomly
  • Deadline September 29, 2023, 11:59 pm ET (New York time)
  • Winner announced October 1, 2023
  • If you also post your painting on Instagram, tag @watercolorbeginnersandbeyond.   You could be randomly chosen for a QoR watercolor sample dot card.

The story of WBB.  How did it begin?    

Creating the Facebook group Watercolor – Beginners and Beyond has been an incredibly fulfilling journey for me. When I first started this group, my main goal was to provide a platform where people of all skill levels could come together and share their love for watercolor painting. I wanted to create a space where beginners could learn from experienced artists, and where everyone could support and inspire each other.

One of the key aspects that I focused on when creating this group was to establish a safe and welcoming environment. I wanted people to feel comfortable sharing their artwork without fear of judgment or negativity. Inappropriate behavior is something that I take seriously, and I made it clear from the beginning that it would not be tolerated. By setting the group’s core value as kindness, I aimed to foster a community where members treat each other with respect and empathy.
In the early days, I had no idea if this group would gain much traction. I often wondered if we would ever reach a hundred members, let alone thousands. However, over the course of four years, the group has grown beyond my expectations. We now have an astounding 175,000 members from all corners of the world. The diversity and creativity within this global community of artists never cease to amaze me.
This group would not be where it is today without the amazing admin/moderator team:  Fi Elizabeth, Laura Binkley Berg, Banks Peacock, Jennifer Elaine, Dianne DeVilliers, Jenn Villalobos, Nazma Kabir, Nayana Nayak.  And a very special thank you to Kevin Hardy Wells, our moderator emeritus.  I have become personal friends with each of these.  I’ve even had the privilege of meeting Fi, Laura, and Jenn in person!
What truly makes this journey so rewarding for me is witnessing the incredible encouragement and support that takes place within the group. Members not only share their artwork but also offer kind words, constructive feedback, and valuable advice. Friendships have blossomed and countless artists have experienced personal growth through their involvement in the group.
It fills my heart with joy to see the positive impact this community has had on so many individuals.
